Race

Race is basically a classification system that categorizes people into different groups. Race is a category of people thought to be similar to each other, and different from other races. Race is based upon heritable phenotypic characteristics, geographic ancestry, physical appearance, ethnicity, and social status. I think race is a useful way to identify people when it comes to practical purposes. It is also useless because race just causes discrimination. Race isn't a good way to classify people because classifying in such way means that people have to meet an assumed set of necessary criteria. Many people will never stop categorizing people into race because people haven't realize the detrimental effects of racial categories on any individual at large. Of course the Census should allow people to select multiple races to define themselves because thats what they are. There are many people in the world that have multiple races and they shouldn't have to be forced to chose one race for the census because that just shows that they aren't being their true self. It doesn't make sense for them just to chose one race especially if they are half something and something else. Which one are they supposed to mark then? The Census needs to allow people to select multiple races because thats just who they are. Race shouldn't even matter around the world but it will always.

  1. I thought your statement that, “people will never stop categorizing people into race,” it so true. I feel the same way and it is unfortunate that people group others by their race. Since the United States is a melting pot it is hard to categorize people as a certain race. Many people are comprised of many different races and just because they look a certain way doesn’t mean they are 100% that race. We judge people too quickly by what they look like and I think it is so unfair. I agree that people shouldn’t be forced to identify with one race. They should be able to identify all parts of them and by only picking one it is like only identifying one piece of you.

  2. Heyy so your statement about "Of course the Census should allow people to select multiple races to define themselves because thats what they are." I don’t think so Census Bureau should allow people to check multiple races to define themselves. Because in America most of immigrants come for better future and they look for an educated partner. I don’t care about race and I think most of us don't care because we all love freedom. Race just puts a boundary to be with only specific people. Just giving my view :)but as u said race will always matter no matter what, I agree with that.

  3. The issue of race cannot be overemphasized, especially in the present world we live in where people judge so much by the outward appearance. people use race as a medium to identify and give themselves relevance in their present environment, knowing they have a background and having the sense of fulfillment that they belong to some certain group of people. A lot of people get along well in their business, churches and school knowing they are surrounded with people of the same race, its make them comfortable. In your blog, you made a point saying” It is also useless because race just causes discrimination”, some people will definitely take that to the extreme of discriminating other people from different race, because they choose not understand the culture that governs them, and how some certain group of people from a particular race operates.

  4. I absolutely distaste your writing style. The repetition of race race race in the beginning of your sentences annoy the rest of the living earwax out of my ears. PLEASE BE MORE CREATIVE! As for your opinion on whether or not we should be allowed to check multiple races on the Census, why is it that you think race shouldn't matter anymore in the current day? Honestly, I find it really rare for a couple to be composed of two difference races/ethnicity lasting till death. If I remember correctly, divorce rates are around 40% or so? And I would bet that if we took a survey most of the divorces are between two different races rather than two people of the same race. The cultural background of a person matters a lot unless they have been fully "Americanized". Heck, even the NorCal and SoCal don't get along very well because of the way we use words like "hecka" and "hella".
